There are two ways to convert a dimension field into a measure field. One method is to drag a dimension field to the measure area. The other method is to click More icon of the dimension field  in the Meta data area and choose "Convert to Measure Column" from the context menu, as shown in the figure below.

 

The column is stored in the measure area after conversion.
